Dr. Sandra Alexandria
DR. KRISTINE TOHTZ: Dr. Kristine Tohtz discovered chiropractic and holistic medicine at a young age. Having seen the wonders that chiropractic and acupuncture had on her family, she decided to dedicate her life to helping others with their ailments in a holistic manner incorporating these two healing arts into one practice.
Dr. Tohtz graduated magna cum laude from the National University of Health Sciences in April 2001. While attending chiropractic school, she also began working toward a diplomate in Acupuncture and in August 2009 received her Diplomate in Acupuncture from the American Chiropractic Association’s Council on Chiropractic Acupuncture (CCA) of which she now sits on the board as the Vice President. After attending two supervised medical internships in Beijing and Hangzhou, China, she found advanced studies to be warranted and and obtained her Master’s of Science in Acupuncture (MsAc) through the National University of Health Sciences graduating summa cum laude in August 2014.
In April 2009, Dr. Tohtz also completed an advanced certification in Pregnancy and Pediatric care through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (icpa4kids.com). She is also a certified post partum doula and the Illinois state representative for Maternity Wise (maternitywise.com). She teaches not only to physicians for continuing education on the topics of pregnancy and pediatric care, but she also teaches to various organizations such as Shine Chicago (a fertility awareness group) and Sharp Mamas.
As a Certified Yoga Instructor through the Temple of Kriya Yoga, Dr. Tohtz uses yoga and meditation as a part of her treatment options for patients. She is also a certified hypnotherapist through the National Guild of Hypnotherapy to assist with such issues as IBS, stress reduction and smoking cessation.
The combination of all of these healing arts is paired in a unique way for each patient for their optimal treatment, rehabilitation and general stress management. So that she may offer the most cutting edge treatment options for her patients, Dr. Tohtz attends numerous continuing education courses in rehabilitation, yoga, nutritional therapies, comprehensive evaluation of blood work, acupuncture, Chinese medicine to name a few.
Dr. Tohtz served as an instructor in the department of Chiropractic Practice and as a staff clinician at the National University of Health Sciences for 4 years after she graduated. She continues to teach Pregnancy and Pediatric care as well as Acupuncture through the University’s Post Graduate Education Department. A consummate teacher to both her patients and her colleagues, Dr Tohtz extends her teaching to others through Back Safety Training Programs, stress management, from fertility to birthing options and proper ergonomics for numerous industries such as Commonwealth Edison, A. Epstein, Network of Women Entrepreneurs ( a subgroup of the National Association of Women Business Owners), Columbia College, Sharp Mamas, Shine, and AA-Razorfish to name a few.
Dr. Sandra Alexandria began her health-focused career as a massage therapist while completing her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She continued her studies at National University of Health Science to complete her doctorate as a chiropractic physician. Using an integrative approach to patient care, functional and physical medicine and clinical nutrition, Dr. Alexandria focuses on treating the whole person — concentrating on the root cause, not just the symptoms. Empowering others to live a healthful lifestyle, she also enjoys the basics of healthful everyday living — yoga and cooking. Fluent in Spanish and an active licensed massage therapist and esthetician, Dr. Alexandria is currently continuing her postgraduate educate to complete a Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Internists.

Serenity Family Wellness is an integrative and holistic wellness center that offers a variety of Eastern and Western medical services to treat a wide range of health issues. We provide personalized, holistic treatment that often involves integrating multiple types of care to successfully diagnose and treat your condition.
Active Treatment vs. Wellness Care
Depending on your health condition, our wellness center offers two types of care — active treatment course and wellness care.
In an active treatment course, we will focus on relieving, correcting and stabilizing your condition. You will have regular, 30-minute visits with the doctor — allowing for enough time to review progress, reassess your condition, alter the treatment plan as necessary and render treatment. Short- and long-term objectives will be discussed every two to four visits to ensure your healthcare goals are achieved.
Once your condition has been corrected and stabilized, you will meet with Dr. Tohtz for 30-minute wellness-care appointments. We will focus on maintaining your health status. Wellness-care programs are not covered by insurance plans and can vary from monthly to quarterly care, based on your individual needs.
Through regular appointments and open dialogue, we will develop a treatment plan that is appropriate and effective, ultimately leading you to better health.
Serenity Family Wellness also offers Skype or FaceTime appointments for existing patients if you’re unable to come to the office. In order to schedule a Skype or FaceTime appointment, you must call our office. If you currently don’t have a Skype account, you will need to set up an account and add Dr. Kristine Tohtz (drkristohtz) to your contact list following these instructions from Skype. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
Your First Visit
Your first visit with Dr. Tohtz will last approximately one hour, where she will get to know you and work to determine the precise cause of your health issue(s). She will perform a thorough examination, consisting of but not limited to: full body physical, postural analysis, neurological/orthopedic procedures, muscle testing and functional biomechanics. Depending on your condition, a radiological exam or blood work/salivary hormone testing may be ordered off site in order to rule out any pathology.
Once Dr. Tohtz has processed all of your results, you will receive a detailed explanation of all findings and their importance, as well as how they will dictate your treatment protocol, as each case and presentation is different and treatment options are individually chosen. You’ll receive an explanation of what you can expect regarding your recovery, and short and long-term goals will be discussed, along with any other questions that you may have.
Serenity Family Wellness is located at 641 W. Grand Avenue, at the corner of Grand Avenue and Des Plaines Street.
